In July 2011, the UK Government  launched a new scheme to promote renewable energy heating schemes, specifically targeted at biomass, heat pumps and solar thermal technology. The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) will offer a financial incentive to users installing approved equipment, subject  to meeting certain criteria. One of those stipulations will be the requirement to fit an approved class 2 meter, to enable the energy used to be accurately monitored, and to produce figures for payment under the scheme.
